Spring 2003
The landscaping in our
one-third acre in Indianapolis, Indiana began 1985 with the planting of trees. Main
features of the design include a wall of evergreens on the three sides of
the backyard, native and non-native trees, favorite shrubs and one-color
beds of perennials. Many revisions have been made as the years have
gone
by.

In the foreground on the West side
of the house is a Japanese Maple
and further on, a Red Bud.

A view from the opposite direction of the same path shows a
Witch Hazel and a Flowering Dogwood on the left.
On the right a Sassafras tree is in flower in front of the Japanese
Maple.
A neighbor's Red Bud peeks over the top.

Bundles of blossoms on the trunks of Red Bud trees have always fascinated
me.

In the center of the back lawn is an herb bed surrounded
by a stone path, and an Iris bed. A bed of one type of plant
is a mistake I've cautioned people about. When the plants are
not
in flower, it is boring. Soon there is no room for
growth.
And if one plant becomes infected with rust fungus,
as is the case here, all the plants become diseased.
